for real?

adam goes to daycare on an air force base in dc. i am not a-scared to tell the whole wide world that because there is NO way in heck you could get on this base and steal my baby. it is seriously guarded. for one, lots of military there. but for two, the DIA is there too. yeah, you're not getting in. i mean, they barely let me in.

today on my way to pick him up, at the light right outside the entrance to the base, i noticed a car with it's hazard lights on. center lane, right up at the light. then, a minivan pulled up to the car, left lane, also put on hazard lights. a woman got out of the car in the center lane while the light was red. she walked around to the rear of her car, raised her hatchback, and took out a red gas can. then... she hopped in the minivan, with the red gas can, and LEFT HER CAR, rode away into the sunset in the minivan with her gas can. this woman straight up left her car at a red light, in dc, (are you from dc, b/c this is in anacostia... so yeah, that's right, she LEFT her car in anacostia...), in front of the base, during RUSH HOUR. in front of the security guards.

lady. lady lady lady, WHY did you leave your vehicle? why didn't you give your gas can to your minivan friend and have them bring you some gas? i can't be sure, but i'm guessing your car wasn't there when you got back, with your red can full of gas. i am guessing you might get a call from some military police or homeland security wondering why you left an unattended vehicle in front of the DIA. or- i'm guessing someone decided your car looked a lot like their new car and took it. or perhaps some crazy dc driver in a hurry- all dc drivers during rush hour- didn't notice your hazard lights and turned your gassless car into a gassless smushed up car.

why why why?

i made my right turn and went through security to get on the base so i never saw what happened. but as i passed her car, i slowed and leaned over, just to see if maybe, perhaps, hopefully she'd left someone there in the car and i'd been mistaken. but no. no one. empty car, at a red light, in front of the base and the DIA, during rush hour, in the anacostia neighborhood of dc.

*sigh*
