would you say it's a good thing or a bad thing that getting a root canal was fairly relaxing?
good thing: you guys! i was able to relax while someone drilled and scraped tissue and nerves out my head! i must admit, after having adam, i have felt pretty confident in my ability to do...well... damn, just about anything. funny how 30+ hours of labor will do that to a girl. today i had my 3rd appointment in this root canal mini-series that has become my dental-life. in giving birth, and in this root canal, i just breathe. breathe. breathe. breathe. during the root canal procedures, i repeated to myself several times (in my head, of course, since my mouth was braced open, being drilled and covered by a rubber dam...)-- if i am breathing, i am alive. if i am alive, i can do anything. and if i can do anything, then i can do this. i put my hands on my belly and made an effort not to clench them. and i breathed in and out, focusing on making my hands rise and fall. after awhile, i was noticing the piano in the music playing through the office. the way i could see my reflection in the ginormous microscope over my head. the smell of that goop they put in your teeth. and honestly, laying there was the most relaxing part of my day.
bad thing: um, how stressful if the rest of your life that getting a root canal is the most relaxation you have all day. ahem. perhaps time for some reassessments...
