eric and i met in south carolina over five years ago.

in the past five years, we moved to dc, married, bought our first home and made our beautiful, funny, sensitive, brilliant son.

and in a few more months, we'll be moving again. to maine.

eric's job transferred him there, we're moving soon.

the next few months involve a myriad of upheavales and life changes, some of which are already taking/have already taken place: telling my boss and colleagues, listing our home for sale (this thursday! please send positive financial thoughts our way!), planning a trip to maine (early may to check out neighborhoods and hopefully rent an apartment/home), packing some things, and more more more more more more more.

i have only been to maine once.

i don't know a soul in maine.

i grew up in sc.

a few times, i have woken up at night and to a voice. she sounds like me and says: i am sad. and scared.

out loud, i tell her: nonono. YOU are so brave and happy.

yes, i love my job. yes, i love our city and our friends and family so close by. yes i love our home, the place we made our own, the place we brought our baby home to start his life with us. the place we were so excited to have that we came here after we bought the joint and shared take-out on the floor in the empty house.

but.

but i love my husband. like, really really love. he is my family. and anyone who knows me knows i adore change, evolution. i haven't had a single job more than a couple years. i've moved 8 times in the 8 years since i graduated from college. we had (were blessed with) a baby totally unexpectedly.

i am brave and happy.

and you know what? maine is gorgeous. maine is gonna be breath of fresh air, literally and figurately. portland has rocky coasts with light houses, cobblestone streets, a happening art scene and, most importantly, my husband there. and portland is close to boston and we have friends in boston. and did you know the cost of living is super low, so i can likely teach yoga and be a mom and enjoy LIFE and my son's little bitty life some more, switch from a sprint to a stroll for a couple years? did you know that allagash is brewed there, a beer we love? or that bon appetit named it the foodiest small town in the us, or something like that? how about, did you know that you can buy lobsters at roadside stands and not run AC for months on end? or that my husband will be home more often? do you know that acadia national park is there? that beaches are nearby, like the real ocean, not a dirty old stinky river? have you been to maine? because i have to tell you, if green had a smell, it exists in maine, and i know because i smelled it there last summer. did you know that in august you can swim in the day and sit fireside at night time? that portland has a huge summer farmers market AND a winter market?

take that, scared girl.

ok, no, really, honestly, i am excited. i will be fine. i am truly excited. this is an adventure. life is an adventure. and i love a good adventure.

speaking of adventures, remind me later (read: AFTER we sell our house) to tell you a funny story about our house this week. sigh.

love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love

"home, let me come home, home is wherever i'm with you
home, yes I am home. home is whenever Im with you."

Oh my gosh, I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Maine. That sounds very exciting. As you know I went through a move 4 years ago (can't believe it's been that long) from west coast to DC and it was hard, hard, hard. But I got through it. If you ever want to chat (before or after the move), I'm here. And I wish you and Eric and Adam and Otis the BEST! Blog all about it, 'kay?
