recently...

bike ride on peak's island. we took a ferry out to the island, which is part of the city of portland, along with many other little islands out in the bay. it was a perfect afternoon with my guys. the landscape is so gorgeous. it is breathtaking, amazing that the water cut its way into the earth, that the rock is carved and perfect and imperfect all at once. this bike ride goes down as one of the most beautiful places i've been.

toward the middle of the ride, adam fell asleep. his little helmeted head swayed from side to side, yet he didn't wake up.

we saw this sign when getting off the ferry. i laughed about it all day (the message, not the situation...)

a funky little house on the island. if we found the right house, i'd totally move out there. forget the ferry, the winter, the everyreasonweshouldn'tmoveagainespeciallyouttoalittleisland. i'd still do it.

seafood wharf on our street.

my brother came to visit. my parents came too, before he did, but all those photos are either trapped in my camera or on my mom's.

ten minutes away. amazing.

other stuff...

eric has been home only about two weeks of the eight we've lived here in portland, and that's been a few days here and there at a time. but we make the most of the time he's here and adam and i have been ALL over new england to be with him - northern maine, rhode island, cape cod, boston, etc. it's nice to see so many new places. it's nice to have the flexibility to make daytrips on a whim. next weekend, while he's home, we're moving on to seeing acadia in northern maine. it's time for adam's first camping trip. and we want to get hiking and seeing before it gets too cold. adam LOVES walking and running, and we have a backpack carrier for him when he's had enough. my only concern, and it's a slight one at that, is how he'll sleep in a tent. or, i should say, how he'll fall asleep. once asleep, he's a rock. but it will be interesting to see if he'll quiet down in the tent alone while eric and i stay up later. my goal will be to hike out all his energy :) which won't be easy- he's a little rocket. regardless, i am so excited for this trip. this commercial is making me even more excited (the first part, not the back to school part, naturally). everytime we see it, i am mesmerized and adam starts dancing, two good signs i'm sure. we also spent a rainy afternoon lately when eric was home at the ll bean flagship in freeport, nearby. it definitely piqued our excitement to get out there.

i've been jogging a couple miles (with adam in stroller) to the point of the portland pennisula. i steer off the path and over to the water's edge into a little nook between trees to an open clearing, overlooking the bay, the sun rising in the east, the boats moored, the islands in the distance and having my own little yoga practice in the mornings right there. there is NOTHING better. this place is perfect and adam points to and tells me about every boat and rock and water while i practice. it is perfection. for some reason lately my practice brings this giant lump in my throat at the end, a big happy cry just waiting to come out. almost like a sneeze, coming up quickly and unexpectedly but strong. i think that lately i am so grateful for everything, it bubbles to the surface when i take care of myself too. in classes and on my own... something interesting to observe for awhile.

things are good.
