i want to remember
it's nearly mid-may and it's *just* starting to feel like spring. daffodils and tulips are everywhere. trees are just beginning to get leaves, some with blooms thisclose to opening, some dogwoods already open. i smell them before i see them, good ol' pregnant nose. it's 40's at night, 60's in the day. we're not running the heat, but it's chilly willy in the mornings, we need socks and a sweater indoors. but with oil so expensive right now, the idea of purchasing oil for our heat right now makes me want to faint. and then wake up in a warmer place.
it's not bad though, it's spring. this is just a much later spring than i ever had before. as i said last year when we moved here, it's like traveling back in time. i'm excited to have my parents visit later this month because i know they'll get to experience their version of march all over again.
adam wants to "mell" the flowers and says often "oh mommy LOOK at that one!" it's priceless. his "mell" is actually two quick exhales through his nose, which makes a similar sound to the two quick inhales a person might take to sniff something. it's toooooo funny going on walks with him, watching him "mell" all the spring flowers, probably blowing boogers on peoples' pretty spring gardens.
with eric home, and being in a new part of town, we go on walks in the evenings after dinner often. it's pretty here, and the flowers and trees are such a pleasant change. we wear light jackets and long sleeves, shoes, not flip flops. adam likes to pick dandelions, he does not like that we make him hold hands when we cross streets and he likes to walk ahead.
however, tomorrow should be in the low 70s. i am thinking of going to the beach. and this is not a joke.
our crib is put together. our rocker is put together. as many gender-neutral baby clothes as i could find in storage, plus all the cute ones we received as gifts, are washed and folded. bags are packed and near the door. friends are on-call in case we need a middle-of-the-night adam sitter. i'm all registered at the hospital. i am having strong but irregular contractions - painful, but not *that* painful, and nothing consistent. as they say, if you have to ask... it's not labor. and i definitely learned this last time. so i know it's not the real deal yet. but i know it's on it's way. and i'm definitely feeling more ready. i mean, as ready as one can be for the totally unbelievable yet real task of birthing another human!
which reminds me, today i got an email from thebump.com saying that my baby is now the "size of a watermelon!" i really think they should stop with the baby fruit comparisons before they get to watermelon size. scary.
