eric has been away for a week. stalkers, don't even think about it, because he's home veeeeery soon and will work you out. i realized today, when both children didn't nap at ALL, when i opened adam's bedroom door after he screamed MOOOOOOOOMMMMMMYYYYYY over and over and over how much i really really really do need an hour or so each afternoon to myself.
i have to admit, i feel for little marin, who farted all afternoon and probably couldn't sleep because her tum-tum hurt. but adam, i really have no idea. this boy, who normally naps 3+ hours a day. i often have to wake him at 6pm adam, who is not destructive, who is eerily respectful and polite for his age. today... he pulled ALL the stuffing out of a pillow, like a little puppy, and spread it around his room like snow. when he should have been napping.
siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.
when our sitter arrived this afternoon so i could go teach yoga, i told her i'd for sure be stopping on the way home for a bottle of wine and a single straw (JOKING... about the straw) and barely had the brain power to tell her what she needed to know to take on the rest of the evening.
the deal is, there is so much more to do besides taking care of babies. for one, there are the kiddos and all they require - potty time and MOMMY COME WIPE ME!!!, and diaper changes. meals and arguing about tv time and what's for breakfast, smoothie making and "mommy let me push the button!" and cuddles and rocking and "dream feedings" (look it up ...). pooped-on bouncy seats to be soaked and washed, wardrobe changes and do these clothes fit the baby anymore? and playdates and packing the picnics and the strollers and the sunscreens and making the plans. but also... there are groceries to be purchased, lists upon lists, school meetings (!), bathrooms that are (WERE!) starting to look like truck stops and need cleaned, laundry that needs to be washed so we have clothes to wear, peed on sheets to be washed, trash that needs to get to the curb... PLUS, a business to operate, classes to teach, AND a dayjob.
have i mentioned i'm ready for eric's return?
cause i really, really am.
it's so much, simply keeping us fed and happy and entertained and not letting our home and bodies sink into filth without an extra pair of hands.
since eric's been away, i haven't had a drop of wine or beer - i have NO time to go to the store - but tonight.... yes, vino. mucho. me-o.
don't get me wrong, i couldn't love anything more than being a mommy and these sweet little chubby cheeked people i live with and love. i am grateful beyond words.
but everyone needs a break, right?
right.
