last night adam had gas. well, actually, adam has had gas since he was born. this is actually one of the ways we identify him as our child-- with that much trumpeting, he HAS to belong to us. but last night, his belly ached and he told me about it all night. though i was on the verge of tears this morning after no sleep and hours of rocking, soothing and feeding in small doses, i had to laugh too.
could you imagine if, as adults, we did the same thing as babies when we have that achy gas that won't escape?
midnight- dude, wake up, i have to FART. ugh. have you ever had to fart like this? man, i'm hungry.
1am- dude, wake up. still gassy. must have been my dinner. fart sounds. ahhh, i feel a little better. wait? are you sleeping? wake up, i'm trying to talk to you! this totally sucks!!
2am- hey man, wake up again. i just cannot shake this feeling in my belly! it's, like, killing me! maybe i should eat a little more? what do you think? oh wait. i think i'm going to throw up on myself. barf sounds. uh oh. crap. do you have a little towel around here i can use?
3am- fart sounds with crying. sorry to cry, uh, but this HURTS. oh sorry, were you sleeping? well i am glad you're here b/c i am sorta hungry again.
4am- screaming sounds with farting.
5am- hey, hey you. wake up. ok, ok. starting to feel slightly better. remind me to never eat that fast again!! sheesh. speaking of eating, got anything for me? fart sounds with barfing.
6am- hey, look at that, the sun is coming up a little, over there out the window. hey, thanks for rocking me for the past hour while i look out the window. i mean, its really helping, at least i think so. and that ass wipe earlier, that was awesome. thanks, man. seriously. thanks.
7am- screaming sounds with farting. hey, did you want to watch the Today show? isn't that what we usually watch every morning? man, you look TIRED. are you ok? i mean, you look like you were up all night. are you hungry? we should have breakfast, NOW.

on top of the gas, i personally think we're experiencing the infamous six week growth spurt. our guy is either a chowhound OR he eats small meals in spurts, crying for food every hour or two. his good-for-a-newborn sleeping schedule is out the window and it's like he forgot that his bassinet is the warm snuggly place he's slept the past month and a half. the internet tells me that this should pass in a few days and that things get easier from here. it honestly hasn't been THAT hard so far, so hopefully we're about to enter Baby Bliss Land.
don't worry, i won't hold my breath.

the only reason i am able to write this post is because eric is feeding and putting down the Gas Bubble. and while he has been on evening baby duty, i was also able to go through all our maternity and newborn photo proofs. i cannot BELIEVE how big my belly was. or how much adam has grown and changed in just three weeks. it is honestly unbelievable, he's like a new baby completely. the photos are all priceless and i am so glad we decided to do it.

I can't explain to you how much I just laughed. You are wonderful. I am working and took a minute to see what you've been up to and you just made my night!
