my brother and his girlfriend came to meet adam last week and part of this weekend. seeing them was amazing and we had a wonderful time. we took adam to see the monuments in dc... he was more interested in his lunch, but usually so am i , so whatever. and we took him for a drink and a bite in georgetown but he wanted a nap. but usually so do i, so whatever.
saturday we left the little guy with eric's parents and went to a hot air balloon and wine festival in the shenandoah valley. we couldn't have ordered a more perfect day-- lovely fall weather, amazing company, yummy wine and food. perfect.

we're starting to get little adam on a schedule and i love it. he seems pretty content and regular, taking his short morning nap, long afternoon nap, and bedtime bottle at 7:30. he's asleep by 8:30 and sleeps a wee bit longer night after night. at minimum we're getting sleep in 4 hour chunks at night time, so i really can't complain.
my favorite times with him are in the morning and then at bedtime. in the mornings, after his breakfast and before his nap, he's super alert and "plays." he lays on my belly and practices lifting his head and chest, looking surprised and checking out everything he can see before his little head bonks back down to my chest. and, at bedtime, he lays in my arms wrapped all tight in his blanket as i rock him, just staring up at my face, his eyes closing.... closing.... closing, and finally... closed.
i can't even describe here how much i love him, we love him, in stupid words. so i won't even try. but he is the best part of our days, and we regularly just want to squeeze him we love him so much! his little face hasn't left my mind for a second and i know now that it never ever will.
we've seen him smile in his sleep everyday and now a few times when he's awake. i don't know if he knows that he's smiling, i think it's an accident, but its so heartwarming all the same. i know his real smiles are on their way, but these practice smiles are so sweet too.

we need a clock in the baby's room. every SINGLE day i'm in there rocking him wondering- what time did i start feeding him? how long have i been up now?
the days get away from me so quickly. i can't believe how much time has passed so quickly. we have morning bottles, morning naps, i manage to get a few things done around here, afternoon bottles, afternoon naps, then i can shower and brush my teeth, maybe make my bed if i am lucky, attack the laundry mountain if i am lucky, evening bottles, bath and bed. before i know it, it's 9pm and the day is over. i am doing my best to enjoy every minute, but the minutes seemed to have gone into superspeed. when people warned me that it passes so fast, they weren't kidding.

i've lost 20 of the 30 pounds i gained being pregnant.

i quit checking my work emails. the past few times i did, i got a message i was over quota. i don't have the energy (or time, see above) to sift through the emails and delete some, so i'm not. i am on leave, granted by law. so i am going to BE on leave, emails and all.
