happy happy happy birthday week (ok, it was monday but i haven't been feeling so hot and blogging hasn't been at the top of the list...) to my handsome, smart, hilarious, hard-working, never-complaining, best best best husband in the universe. i love you!
"breakdancing" at my best friend's wedding this summer. that's my hand, spinning his legs.

i've been letting adam walk to school now, instead of strolling him. it's just about a quarter mile to his little preschool, and my office which is right next door. it takes us about twice as long, but is good exercise for him, plus he has so much to see and say along the way and seeing the world, even just one little street, through his eyes is a treat for me in the mornings.
last night, it poured rain and wind twisted around and through. this morning, many of the colorful leaves were on the sidewalk under our feet, adam naming colors as we crossed them, yellow, red, green, brown, orange. i said to him - do you know why these leaves fell down? he stopped walking, looked at the leaves but didn't answer. i said- remember how it was rainy yesterday? the rain made all these leaves fall down. he said - hurt? i said- what? thinking he was referring to himself. still looking at the leaves, with serious concern on his face, he said - hurt? hurt in the eye? the leaves, mommy? i had to squat down and squeeze my little loving boy. on the rest of our walk, i tried to explain that this is what happens, and that we'll have new green leaves soon, but it might be awhile before he understands more than falling down = getting hurt. how do you teach a little kid that sometimes falling down means a new fresh start is right around the corner?
